I couldn't find a good picture of a bear and an elephant fighting so I had to make my own. At least you can tell the difference between the elephant and the bear. And check out my lightning bolt! It's not actually storming while they're fighting or anything, I just added it because it symbolizes intensity.
Elephant Argument:
- Elephants are all big and fat and could squish a little bear.
- A natural part of elephant life is "musth" which is Hindu for MADNESS. A male elephant could totally go all musth on a bear and ATTACK.
- In India, at least 539 people were killed by elephants between 2000 and 2006
- Wikipedia says "Despite their popularity in zoos, and portrayal as gentle giants in
fiction, elephants are among the world's most dangerous animals. They
can crush and kill any other land animal, even the rhinoceros." and if Wikipedia says it...it's right.
- In Asia, elephants used to be used for EXECUTION!
- Tusks!
- Elephants travel in packs and could totally take out a lonely little bear.
Bear Rebuttal and Argument:
- Elephants are slow moving and cumbersome and a bear would have plenty of time to get out of the way.
- Musth is only periodic...it doesn't last forever.
- Bears totally have claws and teeth, at least they can finish the job and EAT the elephant after they've defeated it. Elephants are all big and awkward...how can they even reach the ground to munch on the bear if they killed it?
- An elephants nose would get in the way of its ability to fight. Bears have tiny noses.
- Bears have an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to their attacks. See?
- Bears are cooler because they've got a constellation named after them. That's what Ursa Major is...right?
Elephant Rebuttal:
- Elephants have killed more humans in India in six years than bears have in North America in over a decade.
- "The danger that bears pose is often vastly exaggerated, in part by the human imagination." - Wikipedia
- Elephants are vegetarians, but they could probably eat a bear if they really wanted to.
Everyone knows the elephant would win. See this synopsis of a fight between an elephant and a rhino featured on the Discovery show "Animal Face-Off"
"The elephant was just looking for food, but the bad-tempered rhino saw
it as a threat. The rhino attacks the elephant with its charge and
thrust, but the much smarter elephant charges as well and dodges the
attack. The rhino then tries to stab the elephant's throat, but it is
too tall even for the rhino's 4-foot horn. The rhino tries an agile
headbutt, but the elephant defends its head and face with its trunk and
tusks. The elephant then attacks by stabbing the rhino with its tusks
twice (breaking a tusk in the process), topples the rhino over with its tusks, and crushes it under its weight."
This is the story of a walrus that killed a polar bear (LAME, I would be so embarrassed if I was a bear.)
"The bear tries to bite and scratch the walrus, but the walrus's skin is
too thick. Although it managed to briefly latch on with teeth, the polar
bear can't do serious damage. As the walrus flees, the polar bear gets
dragged into the water, and the walrus gores the bear with its tusks.
The bear attempts to flee, but the walrus kills the bear by driving its
tusks into the carnivore's back."

I really don't think an elephant would win. By the time it charged it the bear would have definitely would have gotten out of the way to counter-attack. Plus the bear could take out the legs of the elephant and then the elephant is nothing more than an over-sized chew toy. Bear wins. Bam.
ReplyDeleteYou are wrong. Elephants are way more dangerous than bears. They don't need to charge, they just need to lift up their foot and step on the bear. Squish. No more bear. And how could the bear take out the elephants legs? Elephants have such thick-skinned, stocky legs. It would take a while to just take out one, let alone enough to debilitate the elephant.
ReplyDeletea polar bear while standing up is 9 feet tall. my sources on elephants show that it is usually around 11 feet tall. One said it could get up to 20 but I am assuming that is the Yao Ming of elephants and not the average one. All this to say, an elephant could not simply stomp on a bear nor could it simply lay on top of a bear. Polar bears are only two feet shorter than them, which although is a lot, is not enough for an elephant to raise up its leg and squish a bear.
